Once again, my life has been completely turned ups

Once again, my life has been completely turned upside down by illness. This time, it’s breast cancer 💔.

Completely unexpected, as I have zero family history of breast cancer and am only 34. When I felt a random lump, I expected everything to be fine… but it wasn’t. Check your breasts 🙏.

The past two months have been a blur of appointments and tests with both good results and bad ones. I have had surgery already and fortunately that went well. Recovery has also gone better than expected given my chronic illness. Radiation will start soon, followed by more treatment after that. Getting through it step by step but I have such a long road to go.

Managing the wild rollercoaster of cancer when I already have a chronic illness is difficult (to put it mildly). This probably goes without saying, but Claymeleon has to take a break. I don’t know for how long but I don’t expect to be able to open the shop any time soon.

While it is sad that my stock of finished plants will have to wait, it will be nice for me to look at and keep as a reminder of what illness can inspire. And it gives me an extra incentive to get through this so each plant can find a happy owner 🌱.

Unfortunately, I was on holiday when the flowers bloomed (so I missed the day when one bloomed and the other was still closed, oops). Also, if anyone knows why my real peace lily leaves are turning yellow please let me know! 😂 I am better at making tiny plants than I am at keeping real plants alive.

How did I do recreating a cherry blossom petal? After the wind blew all the cherry blossoms out of the trees in my neighborhood this weekend, I got inspired and took a few petals home. Made a mold and used that to make polymer clay petals! I’m still playing around with the color and design but they are turning out beautifully already 😍🌸.

🪴 Shop updates 🌱

1- From now on, all releases and restocks will go through the Claymeleon newsletter (the waitlist system is gone, hurray!).

2- Many plant designs are not coming back. You can see an overview in my stories (or in the Plants highlight if you’re seeing this later). I need space to breathe and was getting stressed by all the different designs people were expecting to be restocked. Plus, making new designs is fun and takes a lot of time, so I don’t want to spend too much time remaking older designs.

3- I am hoping to release the fittonia and pilea plant earrings this summer. Maybe with the new peace lilies too, if I can manage it. I am going to test larger releases on a less frequent basis to see if that works.

4- Mystery boxes are prepped and ready to go! Not sure when I’ll release them yet but I am so happy with how they came together. Can’t wait to help you surprise yourself with new, fun jewelry!

PS: If I stopped selling my work I could slowly fill my apartment with little plants everywhere like in the photo 😍😂. I won’t do that to you though! The idea that a pair of these earrings will bring such joy to one of you lovely people out there is a huge part of the motivation to keep making them 🫶.
